SIBS Romania, together with two financial institutions, has launched the SOFTPOS solution, which transforms NFC-compatible Android phones into payment terminals and allows contactless EMV payments, with and without the introduction of a PIN code.

The solution allows the rapid expansion of the banks’ POS network and can be easily integrated into the terminal management system of each Bank, being developed in accordance with all Visa and Mastercard security standards.

Since its inception as the first card processing center in Romania, Romcard, now part of SIBS Group alongside SIBS Romania, kept setting higher standards for secure online transactions in our country, region and other continents.

Billions of transactions and countless premieres later – such as being the trailblazer in introducing the groundbreaking 3D Secure platform, Romcard is still going strong, shaping e-commerce in Romania, Moldova and 10 other countries on various continents, and empowering businesses locally and globally through highly secured e-commerce services.

SIBS Romania implemented together with OTP Bank the tap-on solution Soft Pos from SIBS, under the name OTP POSibil, a solution that transforms NFC-compatible Android devices into payment terminals for contactless payments.

The Soft POS solution offered by SIBS Romania, based on the latest tap-on-phone technology, allows financial institutions to offer their merchant customers the opportunity to accept payments made by card or other digital means without investing in hardware terminals.

The solution has maximum payment security, with a level of protection and encryption in accordance with VISA and Mastercard security standards, and is also certified for the OnGlass PIN function.

OTP Bank, by launching the OTP POSibil solution, becomes the third partner of SIBS Romania that implements our tap-on-phone Soft POS solution and chooses to make this technology available to customers.

•We have processed over 1.2 Bn payment transactions, marking a 30% increase compared to 2024. This achievement contributes to the total of more than 11 billion transactions processed by SIBS Group globally.

•Our innovative POS Sharing Solution has seen a significant growth with the enrollment of a major gas station chain and 2 new major retail Partners, thus reaching a total of 11 big retailers and 10 banks participating in this project in Romania. Over 8700 terminals have also been enrolled for the existing Partners, offering the end customers a more seamless check-out process.

•We continued to implement solutions for Google Pay and Apple Pay, thereby enhancing end-users experience with a fast, secure, and efficient digital payment platform, increase customer loyalty, and attract new user segments.

•Soft POS by SIBS continued its expansion reaching 7 enrolled Partners in Romania and 3 abroad. We also successfully implemented together with a top 3 Romanian bank the Soft POS/Tap to Phone Visa application for Romanian postal offices, equipping postal workers across Romania with 7,000 mobile PDA terminals, enabling them to accept card payments directly from customers. This initiative simplifies payment processes, making them more accessible, even in rural or less-developed areas of the country, and further supports the ongoing digital transformation of Romania’s postal services.

•We successfully implemented the Fraud Module Paywatch for an additional Romanian bank, delivering enhanced security solutions that protect the bank’s customers across both online and physical transactions. This cutting-edge solution, trusted already by 2 Romanian banking Partners, not only strengthens the banks’ security infrastructure but also helps build customer trust and satisfaction.

•A new implemented acquiring bank has been successfully integrated by SIBS, enhancing the bank’s ability to offer secure and efficient payment processing solutions. This implementation strengthens the bank’s operational capabilities, as well as provides future merchants with a comprehensive suite of payment solutions, empowering them to easily accept and manage transactions across various platforms.

•We successfully implemented the 10th issuing bank in SIBS portfolio, through an API-based solution, offering complete services from processing to e-commerce authentication and card personalization. This strategic implementation enables the bank to offer tailored credit card solutions to a targeted customer base, enhancing its competitive position in the Romanian financial market and providing personalized financial products that meet the needs of this specific segment.

•We personalized over 1.5M banking and loyalty cards for + 100 banking and retail partners.

•We grew the national footprint of our ATM shared network, Multibanco . With nearly 250 terminals installed, double vs.2023, we now cover nearly 80% of Romania’s territory.

•Our in-house contact center handled over 380,000 interactions (+10% vs. 2022), offering 24/7 bilingual support to partners and their customers. In order to enhance the services we provide to our clients, we successfully opened a new collaboration with Daktela, a leading provider of cloud-based communication solutions, and implemented scalable communication solutions that have optimized workflows and improved operational processes in our in-house contact center

Hugo Araujo has 20 years of experience in the payments market, and recently held the position of General Manager of SIBS International.
