A Milestone for Online Payments in Romania
On this day, 31 years ago, Romcard, member of SIBS Group, processed Romania’s first e-commerce transaction in a production environment, marking a major step forward for online payments in our country.
With this implementation, Romania became the first country in the Visa CEMEA and Mastercard SAMEA regions capable of processing card transactions using 3DSecure technology, ensuring a higher level of security for online payments.
The result of a pilot project launched in September 2003, and successfully completed in March 2004, this launch remains a defining moment that shaped the future of digital transactions in Romania!
